Week 4 Assignments

Hey girls!

Just wanted to say (1) you girls have been great to work with! and (2) for week four we need to discuss what we'd like to do for our "other cultures" assignment. I think for the other cultures, it'd be great to use our idea on researching different culture's desserts. Students could research different varieties and then choose which they'd like to bake.

As for the epals, how do we want to do this?

Also, for the moviemaker assignement we should discuss which aspect we'd each like to take.

Thanks girls,

I just need to get all my homework done for this week by Friday :-)

  1. Hi Girls!

Just following up on our assignments for this week.

    Assignment VII:

Part A: Describing our other cultures aspect.
I think we should use epals to compare similiar and different deserts (Kelsey gave the example of d/s veggies). This directly relates to our pbl. I will begin the description by opening up our google doc and inviting you girls.

Part B: From where would we like to have our epals from? I think the epals part should be done after our students research their own family deserts and then skype with epals or what not to evaluate the d/s between the foods.

    Assignment VIII: Digital Movie

As for our digital movies, we each work on these independently but they need to relate to our pbl and not overlap. If it is okay with you guys I think it would be best to follow our pattern. We have broken our pbl into three categories anyways, so we could each follow our aspect. Example, I will do a movie on safety in the kitchen, then Anne will do recipe reading?, and Tracy can do hers on the follow up. This way we will be extending our information on each of the three topics and also including at this point our deserts in different cultures idea.

Let me know what you girls think. Due to time limitations, I will be beginning both the Google Doc today as well as my digital movie.

    Thanks,
    Abbi

  2. Okay Google Doc has been started. I simply began the document with a title and copied the questions we need to answer so that I would have a document to invite you all to. I sent the invitation to wmich e-mails because we no longer could see each other's gmail accounts. So please log in to wmich and accept the invite to be able to edit the document. I will continue to work on the doc as the week progresses.

  3. Hey girls,

Sorry for the many posts. However, after reviewing my lesson on safety in the kitchen, I think it is pretty well covered. As long as you two are okay with it, I'd like to now cover the Preparing to cook aspect with my movie and second lesson (if appropriate). The safety lesson was more of a umbrella lesson which covered germs, heat, and working with utensils. Please let me know asap if you object to me covering the prep part for my digital movie as I will be working on it today and tomorrow.

    Thanks,
    Abbi

  4. No, Anne I don't think she has posted those yet she asks for time on those things though.
For the Google Doc's, I am kind of with you Anne a little confused, I go the invitation *thanks Abbi* but you said you posted a title and the question on there but i don't see or know how to get to it.
And for the movie maker or digital story I am pretty sure it is okay to cover the same thing, we are just doing it from an aspect in our pbl and each one of our lesson plans is an aspect, we can use that and branch off to be creative.
The epals seems like a great idea, I think that it would be cool to even let the kids pick a certain desert from home that they eat and that is special or unique and seeing where the desert originated from, they may be eating an italian desert and not even know it. or I feel like that may be off topic too though so Anne you said we should stick with cookies, but not let them make the different deserts or what exactly were you saying? We need to have them research something and I think after making cookies that just with picking a culture like anne said from a list we have selected would be good to research and talk to the epals about, or maybe their epal could give them a specific desert that they eat alot at home.
There is alot to do in Module 4 and I know Abbi you've got started, but I just need to figure out the exacts so I can pitch in and we can get a good lesson out of it.
Also the google maps, any ideas on what to do with that? I was thinking that the map could be a map from our culture to their epals country to show the distance, or just a map of their epals country or state or neighborhood to get more closely and personal. Let me know what you think and please help me out.
    Thanks girls!!!!
